Learning and Retreat Center
Welcome and History
The Thai Yoga Center offers SomaVeda Thai Yoga, authentic Thai Massage classes, Nuad Boran classes, Thai herbalism classes, Thai language classes, Thai culture classes, eclectic martial arts, hatha yoga and more.
We are a unique residential-style healing center dedicated to the research, preservation and education of the three branches of Traditional Thai Medical Massage, Thai Ayurveda, and Thai Medicine: yoga therapy, herbalism and spiritual practice. The TYC offers in-depth, authentic Thai Yoga classes (also known as Thai yoga massage, Thai Massage or Nuad boran) that engage students with a deep understanding of the richness of these ancient modalities. Students attending classes at TYC and clients receiving treatments at our clinic will have an experience that is steeped in Thai culture, philosophy, spirituality, theory and history.
All of our professional certification programs are personally conducted or personally supervised by Thai recognized Aachan and Master Instructors with verifiable recognitions and credentials. Courses run from 16 hour introduction to 3000 hour professional certification programs of study in Thai Yoga and Holistic Health.
The Thai Yoga Center is located in the historic town of Plant City, Florida. We are minutes away from Zephyrhills, Brandon, Lakeland and Tampa metropolitan areas.
The Thai Yoga Center (TYC), was founded as an educational health and retreat center. Our vision is a community-based cooperation of open minded people seeking to learn and share ideas and concepts of healing and wellness. Our way of life encompasses everything from holistic medicine and healing to developing consciousness based on fundamental energetic and spiritual principles. In the spectrum of life everything is important, external as well as internal environments. We focus specifically on the fine arts derived from Yoga and Yoga Therapies from Thailand including but not limited to Thai Yoga, Thai Massage, Nuad Boran, Thai foot massage, Traditional Thai Massage, Thai Yoga Bodywork and Thai Herbal Massage. We have Thai Yoga Teacher training and Holistic Health Provider programs, as well as drop-in yoga classes and a student clinic.
Our joy is a profound commitment to insure the viability and sustainability of the land we share as well as the internal welfare of ourselves and those we care about. We are invested in bringing the adventure, opportunities and lessons that the land offers into all of our programs and mission
Who Are We?
We are an eclectic community of educators, healers, yoga practitioners and teachers who share ideals of community education and sustainable energetic health and wellness practices based on traditional concepts. We are constantly on the lookout for individuals with skills and temperaments who would like to be part of our permanent staff as well as seasonal associates. During the winter season we are a small staff of about five people who organize, research and develop programs, design and improve facilities and grounds, publish and update our web-site, take care of our land and arrange for and register participants in our programs. In the spring and summer season our staff swells and is supplemented by volunteers who are here to help students and guests in a variety of creative ways like land and facility building and maintenance, garden projects, residence support, cooking incredible quality food and assisting in facilitating various courses. Our live-in volunteer staff also participate in the programs that they choose as well.
We practice and support sustainable living principles and practices such as permaculture, Community Supported Agriculture and currently eat from our three food gardens! We have full time residential training and host a variety of conferences and workshops related to green and natural living, evolution of consciousness, martial arts, relationships, psychology and spiritual studies. Our live-in apprentice programs are available only to a select few highly motivated persons.
Our programs have been in development and formally recognized since 1984! We produce and publish a wide variety of Traditional Thai Yoga, Thai Massage, Yoga and Yoga Therapy educational media such as Thai yoga books and Thai yoga video's. All of our Thailand Thai Yoga courses are provided locally by Thailand Ministry of Health and Education approved and licensed providers and teachers.
Thai Yoga Center courses and programs in Thailand and India can be combined for credit with US based programs and vice versa. This allows us to offer professional certifications and formal recognitions for over 3000 hours of combined and dedicated course work.
The ITTA/ Thai Yoga Center also offers courses that are located in Kerala South India. The India programs emphasize Ayurveda, The Art of Being and Science of Life as passed down through generations of Ayurvedic Yogis and Vidya. Our professional programs in Ayurveda, Panchakarma, Indian Ayurvedic Medicine and Herbology, Ayurvedic Cooking, Yoga, Yoga Therapy, Kalari Payat and more are the very best. All of our Kerala South India based Ayurveda and Panchakarma courses and diploma are recognized and certified by the State of Kerala and the National Government of India.
As a Thai Yoga and Thai Massage school, many of our courses have various levels of professional as well as institutional recognition and accreditation. Our program in SomaVeda™ Traditional Thai Yoga and Massage is the oldest running Thai Yoga certification course of its kind in the US. Although there is no specific occupational licensing required for Yoga and Yoga therapies, please refer to individual courses for specifics of recognition and suitability for licensing in your particular area or jurisdiction.
We are a traditional program emphasizing small, personal classes in the Master/ Apprentice relationship style. Apprentice style training is quite different from participating in Western style programs in large groups or corporate style. In apprentice style training you work closely and personally with the Master instructor or directly under the Master's supervision and guidance. This provides an intensely personal experience.
In our program you learn in the very same way this information was first communicated to us and in the manner it was authentically passed down through the generations. The Thai call the Master Instructor an "Aacharn" or "Aachan." Our Aachan, Dr. James is a 37th generation master of formally recognized Thai Traditions and has been personally recognized many times for this in Thailand. No other western Instructor has similar or equivalent recognitions. (For a Bio on Aachan J. Click Here).
As you work with Aachan J. expect to be treated with dignity and respect. However, at the same time please know that the same is always required from students and apprentices as well. Aachan specializes in helping apprentices find their path and their gifts relating to this work and works to bring the ancient traditions to life in a practical expression for everyone.
Our being "On The Land" is already providing many exciting opportunities for your participation in 2011. Please consider joining us.
